Calypso Backpackers, Queensland
Calypso Backpackers offers friendly, Queensland-style informal hospitality to the large numbers of adventure seekers coming to Cairns to explore the Great Barrier Reef and the rain forests, to sample the excitement of the York Peninsula and generally to bask in the gorgeous northern climate. Calypso Backpackers takes care of creature comforts with its tropical swimming pool, bar, buffet and cooking facilities for guests, and provides accommodation for large numbers. The dormitories have 90 beds; there are also 22 twin-share rooms and 26 double-bed rooms.
Brad Foster and Brett Claxton, owners/operators of Calypso Backpackers, have the management task of keeping track of the large numbers of tourists wanting to make reservations, arriving casually with the expectation of being accommodated, checking in and out. As can be imagined, doing all that requires an excellent property management system says Brad. Brad and Brett had Starfleet install their software system last March and have nothing but good to say about its performance. What particularly appeals to them is its ease-of-use, its flexibility, and the fact that training requirements for staff are minimal. There are 6 people who have access to Starfleet software and it operates smoothly under conditions of frequent data throughput. Brad and Brett say they also find the reporting features of great use - in particular the marketing reports that track their source of business for example.
